Marc and Alan first moved to Andalusia from London in 2009, having fallen for the charm of Cortijo El Carligto and the surrounding splendour of the mountainous region of La Axarquía in eastern most Malaga Province. With a firm design plan for the renovation project, and an inspiring dream of an immersive life in Spain, they quickly set about creating a world-class luxury rental property.
By the end of the year El Carligto was open to guests and had already garnered the attention of such publications of Condé Nast Traveller, followed by The Wall Street Journal and Travel + Leisure. The companion property, The Hunting Lodge, opened later after a total renovation in 2014, completing the full-scale transformation of the secluded, hilltop property into the exclusive and luxurious Carligto Estate.
After continued press recognition and nearly continuous annual nominations to the coveted Condé Nast Traveller Gold List, Cortijo El Carligto combined with the Hunting Lodge, won the Gold List award for “Best rural retreat in Spain”.
While Cortijo El Carligto is now reserved solely as a private residence, Alan and Marc continue to cater to discerning guests at The Hunting Lodge, and have expanded their Carligto portfolio with two additional, stunning private Andalusian hideaways.
Marc’s previous professional experience includes IT/telecoms management roles, consulting, and corporate change management; Alan’s background lies mainly in education and training in the public and private sectors. Both Marc and Alan share a passion for travel and culinary explorations, which flavours their approach to the holiday rental business.
